Health Sciences Research Program
The program in Health Services Research is now entering its third year at LUMC. Health Services Research is the study of health care delivery and systems, implementation of evidence-based practices, and improving patient outcomes. Researchers address issues of health care access, quality, safety, costs, and health care outcomes. Leading the program is Frances Weaver, PhD, director of the Center for Management of Complex Chronic Care at Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Weaver also is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine (SSOM).
Two other Hines-based investigators also have joint appointments at LUHS and Hines: Bridget Smith, PhD (Health Policy and Statistics) and Kevin Stroupe, PhD (Health Economics). Dr. Smith is an Assistant Professor and Dr. Stroupe is an Associate Professor at SSOM.
HSR Program staff have consulted and/or worked on projects with a number of departments within LUMC including Hepatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Nursing, Surgery, and Podiatry. Dr. Smith, Weaver and Stroupe are also actively involved in the STAR mentoring program and Medical Resident Friday School.
