Dissertation and Thesis Defenses

Robert Davis (Alan Wolfe laboratory) successfully defended his PhD dissertation on July 11, 2017. Dissertation title:  Mutual Regulation of CRP and Nε-Lysine Acetylation in E. Coli.  Congratulations Dr. Davis!!

 

 
 

Jeffrey Bloodworth (Osipo laboratory) successfully defended his MS thesis on September 14, 2016.  Thesis title: “Investigating Novel Roles of Notch-1 Signaling in Estrogen Receptor-α Positive Breast Cancer”. 

Jeffery has taken a Research Assistant job at the University of Chicago.

Gargi Patil (Denning laboratory) successfully defended her MS thesis on July 25, 2016.  Thesis title: “Role of PKC Delta in UV Radiation DNA Damage Repair”. 

After graduation, Gargi moved to Atlanta, GA and is working as a Quality Control Analyst at Shire.

Lennox Chitsike (Qiu laboratory) successfully defended his MS thesis on June 15, 2016.  Thesis title:  “Role of c-Abl in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Development”. 

After graduation, Lennox moved to Raleigh, NC and is working at Novozymes.

The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology track welcomes PhD candidate Yi Wei Lim from the Integrated Program in Biomedical Sciences.  Wei has joined the laboratory of Dr. Makio Iwashima.

The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology track welcomes PhD candidate Aleksandra Vuchkovska from the Integrated Program in Biomedical Sciences.  Saska has joined the laboratory of Dr. Makio Iwashima.

Publications, Presentation and Awards

 

Gargi Patil (Denning Laboratory) was selected for a Minisymposium oral presentation at the Society for Investigative Dermatology’s annual meeting in Scottsdale, AZ on May 11-24, 2016.  The title of her presentation is “Protein kinase C delta is a central regulator of DNA damage responses”.

Gargi (Denning Laboratory) won a SID/Paul R. Bergstresser Travel Award to attend the Society for Investigative Dermatology’s annual meeting in Scottsdale, AZ on May 11-24, 2016.

 

Olga Raguimova (Robia Laboratory) presented a poster at the Biophysical Society 60th Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, CA which was held on February 27th to March 2nd, 2016.  The title of her poster was “A small loop in the SERCA N-domain facilitates the transition to a compact conformation”.

 

David Ford (Dingwall Laboratory) represented the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program at Loyola University Chicago’s Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT) on February 16, 2017.  David competed against graduate students from across Loyola and won 3rd place overall.  Congratulations David!

 

Joe Cannova (Zhang Laboratory) was awarded a Schmitt Dissertation Fellowship for the 2017-2018 academic year.  Congratulations Joseph!
