Areas To Support

OPHTHALMOLOGY DEPARTMENT FUND

The Ophthalmology Department Fund provides support for the department’s greatest needs and priorities that are essential to our success in patient care, research and medical education.

RESIDENT RESEARCH AND EDUCATION FUND

The Resident Research and Education Fund provides books, educational materials and covers expenses for off-site educational opportunities. The Department of Ophthalmology uses innovative technology, including three-dimensional surgical training devices, unique video assessment tools for cataract surgery and surgical simulators to continue our tradition of providing excellent resident education. The fund also supports research by providing lab supplies and funding travel to present research projects at local and national events.

THE JAMES MCDONALD, MD, FOREIGN MISSION FUND

This fund was named in honor of James E. McDonald, MD, Loyola Ophthalmology chair emeritus and co-founder of FOCUS Inc. (Free Ophthalmologic Care from the United States). Through his many years of service in Haiti and Nigeria, Dr. McDonald established our tradition of service to those most in need. This fund supports residents and faculty on mission trips in Guatemala, offsetting travel expenses and paying for clinical supplies to provide needed patient care.
