Research Intensive Clinical Subspecialty Focus Areas

Research Educational Training

The Department of Ophthalmology integrates hands-on training in contemporary basic and applied research as a key component of its comprehensive clinical training program. Students and residents interested in ophthalmology work alongside internationally renowned faculty to conduct original research studies in any of the nine clinical subspecialty focus areas.

Research advancements are shared with the ophthalmic community by presentation of original research findings at local, national, and international conferences, by publishing original findings in top-tier peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals, by competing for peer-reviewed independent funding, and by participating in prestigious academic competitions.
