Hematology/Oncology

As the pediatric hematologists/oncologists at the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital and the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, we provide comprehensive care for children with cancer and blood diseases. Among the many diseases we treat are leukemia’s, brain tumors, lymphomas and solid tumors. We also diagnose and treat anemias; bone marrow failure syndromes; bleeding disorders, including hemophilia; hemoglobinopathies, such as sickle cell disease and other blood disorders.

In addition to our clinical expertise, we strive to provide the support and services to help children and their families feel more comfortable and at ease during the course of an illness. We emphasize individualized care, open communication and understanding of the many facets of illness.

Our multidisciplinary staff includes board-certified pediatric hematologists/oncologists, certified pediatric oncology nurses, a case manager/clinical nurse specialist, pharmacists and a pediatric clinical social worker. We work closely with our colleagues in Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology and address all elements of complex diseases.

We also offer the following programs:

The Ronald McDonald House – Located immediately adjacent to the hospital, the Ronald McDonald House gives families the opportunity to stay “on-campus” in the event of a child’s lengthy hospitalization.
Child Life – We have an active Child Life program that encourages a variety of age-appropriate activities to foster healthy adaptive skills.
Return to School – Our social worker and nurse will visit your child’s teachers to discuss any educational issues that might arise during treatment.
Special Friends – This unique American Cancer Society program pairs our medical students with children who have cancer in supportive Big Brother/Big Sister-type arrangements.
