Clerkship

The clerkship's core mission is to introduce physicians-in-training to Emergency Medicine and to teach them how an Emergency Department (ED) operates. We also help physicians-in-training recognize their future roles and responsibilities with the ED, regardless of their career direction. They acquire critical judgment skills to care for undifferentiated and seriously ill patients within the context of all organ systems and multidisciplinary content areas. The four-week clerkship is offered from June to April, when physicians-in-training work a variety of shifts (day, evening, overnight, weekends) and participate in four educational days including orientation, patient simulation, point-of-care ultrasound training, skill training, QI Conference, Grand Rounds, student clinical question presentations, case discussions, and interprofessional education. Physicians-in-training can use time outside of educational days and clinical shifts to study, view asynchronous educational materials, complete quizzes, prepare a reflection paper, and develop a clinical question presentation.
