Loyola (COVID-19) Student Response Team

Loyola students decided early on that we wanted to be engaged during the pandemic and do what we could to respond to the needs of our hospital and community. As early as March 16th, when 3rd and 4th year clerkship rotations were cancelled, students began responding in a variety of ways. We created and managed the COVID-19 Hotline, started fundraisers for feeding frontline providers, and began a database of COVID-19 research from around the globe. What began as a patchwork of ad-hoc student projects has now come together under one unified effort.

The COVID-19 response provides students with an amazing way to give back to our community and also gives us a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity. Through the COVID-19 response, we are engaging in and wrestling with a variety of difficult ethical and social justice issues, while gaining essential skills in communication, collaboration, analysis and leadership. The roles we are playing in disaster response provides us with an invaluable learning experience, one that we may never have again.
