Urology Interest Group (UIG)

Urology Interest Group

Urology Interest Group Urology is a specialty which students don’t receive a great deal of exposure to in a pre-clinical medical education. It is not a mandatory rotation for students during their clinical years, so it is often difficult for students to learn about this exciting specialty. The urology interest group will serve to inform Stritch students about the field of urology, as well as to expose them to the diversity of the field. By providing informational sessions with Urology faculty, arranging shadowing opportunities both in the clinic and the operating room, and facilitating clinical research opportunities we hope to foster an interest in urology in those just learning about the field, and help students interested in pursuing a career in urology to make an informed decision. Another goal of the organization would be to help committed students learn about becoming competitive to match in a urology residency, as well as learn about how to navigate the urology match – one that is separate from the NRMP match. Finally, the group will serve as a link between the Urology faculty at Loyola University Medical Center and the students at the Stritch School of Medicine that will serve to strengthen both entities.

Mentorship

We offer a physician-student mentorship program organized by the interest group. Interested students are matched with a Urologist at Loyola Health or at the VA. Through the mentorship program you are encouraged to reach out to your mentor physician for shadowing opportunities. If you are struggling to make contact with your mentor, or did not sign up for the program, the UIG board can help facilitate a shadowing opportunity with a Loyola or VA urologist.
