Major Research Interests: Notch Signaling in Breast Cancer
Research in our laboratory focuses on Notch signaling in human malignancies, particularly breast cancer. Activated Notch is found in breast cancer tissue samples, and over expression of Notch receptors and ligands in breast cancer is associated with a poor prognosis. These findings suggest Notch may play an important role in breast cancer tumorigenesis, and Dr. Foreman's laboratory is working from the hypothesis that Notch signaling is a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment. Currently, her laboratory is focused on two areas of investigation: Notch signaling and angiogenesis; Notch signaling in breast tumor initiating cells (also referred to as cancer stem cells).
