Anita Ghosh (Kaja laboratory) was awarded a 2020 grant from the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness entitled “Thioredoxin-interacting protein modulation as therapeutic approach for advanced neovascular age-related macular degeneration”.

Anita Ghosh (Kaja laboratory) won the 2020 Helen and Wesley E. Bass Jr AMD award for best AMD grant submission from the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness.

Anita Ghosh (Kaja laboratory) won a Cooper Vision Travel Award to attend the Association for Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics Annual Meeting in March 2019.  The title of her presentation was “Loxl1 knockdown in primary optic nerve head astrocytes results in molecular and cellular phenotypes associated with reactive astrocytosis and elastinopathy”.

Aleksandra Vuchkovska (Iwashima laboratory) won the PhD Oral Research Competition for the 2020 Loyola Biomedical Graduate Student Research Showcase. Presentation title: Siglec 5 - a novel checkpoint receptor in T cells.

Jonathan Eby (Callaci laboratory) published a manuscript in the journal Current Pathobiology Reports entitled "Impact of Alcohol on Bone Health, Homeostasis, and Fracture Repair". Current Pathobiology Reports 2020 8: 75-86.

Kanak Joshi (Zhang laboratory) presented a poster of his research at the International Society for Stem Cell Research. The title of his presentation was "Caspase-8 is selectively required for preventing Ripk3-mediated necroptosis in c-Kit+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPC) but not c-Kit- hematopoietic cells". June 2020.

Aleksandra Vuchkovska (Iwashima Lab) was awarded an Arthur J. Schmitt Dissertation Fellowship in Leadership and Service for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Kanak Joshi (Zhang laboratory) published a chapter in the book Leukemia Stem Cells in Hematologic Malignancies entitled “Leukemia Stem Cells in the Pathogenesis, Progression, and Treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukemia”. The book was published in July 2019.

Anita Ghosh (Kaja laboratory) published a manuscript in the journal The Ocular Surface entitled "Manganese (III) tetrakis(1-methly-4-pyridyl) porphyrin, a superoxide dismutase mimetic, reduces disease severity in in vitro and in vivo models for dry-eye disease". Ocul Surf. 2019 Apr;17(2):257-264.

(Callaci laboratory) published a paper in PLoS One, 2019 Mar 20;14(3):e02143. The title of his paper was "Effects of ethanol and ethonal metabolites on intrinsic function of mesentric resistance arteries".

Lourdes Plaza Rojas (Guevara laboratory) was co-author on a paper published in Journal for the ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, vol. 7: 2019. The title of her paper was "NKG2D signaling certifies effector CD8 T cells for memory formation".
