The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation emphasizes the role of research in patient care, teaching, and the necessity of research for the advancement of orthopaedic science. As an academic department of the University, the Department maintains a vigorous research effort that involves faculty, residents, and medical students.

Three fully equipped and staffed research laboratories serve as the foundation for investigations at both the biomechanical and cellular level. Additionally, these laboratories and their faculty train graduate students and research fellows from around the US and the world.

The tremendous advances made in orthopaedic research in the past several decades have transformed orthopaedic knowledge and the understanding of skeletal biology. The department maintains a commitment to supporting the future of orthopaedic research through its efforts.
