Nephrology

The Division of Pediatric Nephrology provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for pediatric patients with problems including diabetic nephropathy, renal hypertension, bed-wetting, recurrent urinary tract infections, blood or protein in the urine, glomerular and tubular disorders, and chronic renal failure. Full dialysis and transplantation services are provided for infants and children with chronic renal failure.

We evaluate and treat children for the following kidney problems:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Blood in urine
  • Protein in urine
  • Acute and chronic Glomerulonephritis
  • Nephrotic Syndrome
  • Acute and chronic kidney failure
  • Hydronephrosis
  • Cystic kidneys and other congenital defects
  • Renal tubular acidosis
  • Bed-wetting
  • Daytime urine leakage
  • Kidney stones
  • Urinary tract infections

Specialty Services

Hemodialysis
The facility for outpatient hemodialysis has 30 hemodialysis stations.
Kidney Transplantation Program
A board-certified pediatric nephrologist works with pediatric transplant surgeons to prepare children with chronic renal failure for transplants and to provide long-term follow-up.

Medical Education
Residents in Pediatrics and Med-Peds receive a dedicated month training in Pediatric Nephrology during which they increase their knowledge of acid-base, fluid, and electrolyte physiology and pathology.
