Loyola Women in Surgery Group

Loyola's Women in Surgery group was established in 2010.  The missions of the group are to:

  • Provide a forum for networking opportunities to enhance career satisfaction
  • Encourage professional development and academic growth
  • Provide opportunities to mentor and be mentored by women surgeons
  • Promote and environment that fosters inclusion, respect and success

The group meets 2-4 times per year for events such as networking dinners, professional development sessions, communications skills workshops, and student mentoring opportunities. Student related events have included one-on-one mentoring and surgical skills training sessions.  The group has also sponsored an annual student and trainee travel scholarship and to promote academic success and leadership. 

This group is a chapter of the Association of Women Surgeons and includes women faculty and trainees from all surgical sub-specialities at Loyola, including:

  • Cardiovascular surgery
  • General surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Otolaryngology
  • Plastic surgery
  • Urology
  • Vascular surgery
