SJS Patient Support Group Symposium

Loyola has a long history of interest and expertise in the acute and chronic management of Stevens Johnson Syndrome with a dedicated multidisciplinary team of specialists. This started in 1990 with the leadership of Richard Gamelli, MD who as Director of the Burn Unit, built the regional and national reputation as a "Center of Excellence" for the acute care of burn patients and those with Stevens Johnson Syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN). Currently our multidisciplinary team includes the Burn Unit Director and nurse manager, 4 ophthalmologists/fellowship trained corneal surgeons, a Dermatologist, a Pulmonologist, a Psychologist, a Gynecologist, and a Social Worker.  We are dedicated to providing multidisciplinary care to both the patient and family as both an inpatient as well as in the outpatient setting. We are committed to understand the mechanisms of the disease that will provide insights into prevention, prediction, earlier diagnosis and targeted therapies of this devastating disease.
