FOR LUC UNDERGRADUATES

Where:  Cardinal Barnardin Cancer Center, Loyola University Health Sciences Campus in Maywood Illinois.

When: May 15 - July 24, 2023

Application Deadline:  February 28, 2023

Why: To provide LUC undergraduate students with the opportunity to directly contribute to ongoing cancer research projects under the guidance of expert research faculty and to explore potential careers in biomedical research and medicine.

The Summer Research Internship program provides undergraduate LUC students with an opportunity to spend the summer working in a cutting-edge, basic science research laboratory under the supervision of an expert cancer researcher.  Successful applicants will join their mentor’s lab for a full-time, 10-week research experience.  They will gain hands-on experience in a cancer laboratory setting and learn about current problems in cancer causes, diagnosis, prevention and/or treatment.  Interns can explore potential careers in biomedical research and medicine while making important contributions to ongoing research.

Interns will supplement laboratory activities with attendance at lab meetings and seminars as recommended by their mentor.  They will learn how to organize a scientific presentation and all interns are expected to give a short presentation about their project at the end of the program.

Internships are aimed at students who have completed one to three years of undergraduate education (rising sophomores, juniors or seniors).  Applications from individuals from minority groups that are underrepresented in science are encouraged to apply.
