Faculty invited to apply for PCM-3 Assistant Director position

The Stritch School of Medicine Central Curricular Authority (CCA) is seeking applications from faculty members interested in serving as the Assistant Director of the third-year medical school course Patient Centered Medicine 3 (PCM-3).

As the third of the four-year clinical skills curriculum courses, PCM-3 focuses on professional formation and development as a physician. Reflective skills are emphasized. Students reflect orally at the start of each session in small groups with faculty facilitators on their professional development and also are guided to apply these reflective skills to demanding clinical situations.

Didactic sessions (synchronous and asynchronous) are focused on topics integral for the practice of clinical medicine and include sessions on professionalism, ethics, end of life care, nutrition, and interprofessional team skills. Large and small group discussions are utilized as appropriate to enable students to apply key principles and  insights to their clinical experiences.

The Assistant Course Director will join the Course Director in implementing the course and its assessments. This Assistant Director will be expected initially to focus on enrichment of the course content and delivery modes. Furthermore, as virtual delivery of content had to quickly replace in-person delivery, continued review of means to enhance pedagogical methods is desirable.

There are nine PCM-3 sessions in an academic year; they are held on Wednesdays between 8:30 and 1 p.m. approximately every six weeks. Medical students are excused from their clerkship activities to attend all PCM3 sessions.

Interested faculty with practical experience in medical education, especially regarding professional identity formation and/or curricular innovation are encouraged to apply by submitting a) their curriculum vitae and b) a statement outlining their qualifications and motivation for serving as Assistant Director, and interest in undergraduate medical education.
