Loyola’s Mark Kuczewski Named a Hastings Center Fellow

Around the world, there are only a few hundred people who hold the title of Hastings Center Fellow. In 2019, Loyola University Chicago’s own Mark Kuczewski, PhD, HEC-C, joined the list of fellows recognized for their outstanding accomplishment and scholarship in the field of bioethics.

Kuczewski is the director of the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy at Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine. He holds the Father Michael I. English, S.J., Professorship in Medical Ethics and was the founding chair of the department of medical education.

With the help of Kuczewski, Stritch became the first medical school in the nation to welcome applications from young undocumented immigrants who are protected under the Deferred Action for Children Arrivals Act (DACA). His continuous efforts have led to the creation of resources that are available to clinicians across the country at many health systems, clinics, and the Sanctuary Doctoring website.

"I am humbled and honored to have my name included among a group of people well-known for their scholarship and actions to advance ethics and social justice in health care, science, and society."

Kuczewski is one of 12 fellows elected by the Hastings Center in 2019. Founded in 1969, the Hastings Center is the first bioethics research institute to address fundamental ethical and social issues in health, health care, science, and technology.

Join Loyola in congratulating Mark Kuczewski for this prestigious recognition. Below is a list of the other 12 Hastings Center Fellows of 2019:
