Summary of Research Interests

Plasma MMP-9 levels are elevated in obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Hunter's current are of research is focused on determining if tear MMP-9 levels are also elevated and how they alter corneal biomechanics, specifically corneal hysteresis. Patient adherence to topical medical management in the treatment of glaucoma is a main hindrance to successful management of glaucoma and potential cause of vision loss and blindness. Dr. Hunter has worked on glaucoma medication adherence projects in the past and is interested in pursuing this line of research again. Keratoconus is an ocular disorder resulting in progressive thinning of the cornea resulting in blurred and distorted vision.  Some current treatments require early detection of keratoconus. Dr. Hunter is interested in exploring methods for the early detection of keratoconus based on best corrected visual acuity.
