Contact lens management of the ocular complications of Graft versus Host Disease

GVHD can be a devastating complication of bone marrow transplant.  Chronic ocular GVHD affects the lacrimal gland, meibomian glands, cornea and conjunctiva and can cause vision loss.  Both bandage contact lens and scleral gas permeable lenses aid in the management of ocular GVHD.  Determining key factors that can predict the likelihood of success with alternate lens modalities is a key interest.

Corneal Biomechanics

We are interested in the relationship of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with corneal biomechanics, specifically corneal hysteresis. Our interests include studying the relationship and changes in tear film biomarkers (particularly matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) levels) and corneal hysteresis in both the setting of OSA prior to treatment compared to individuals without OSA.

Adherence to eye care and treatment in glaucoma

Noncompliance to follow up care and medication use is the main hindrance to successful management of glaucoma.  Inadequately managed glaucoma can lead to vision loss and blindness.  I am interested in developing methods to monitor and improve adherence to glaucoma treatment.
