Inpatient Consultation Service
The Department of Ophthalmology provides about 2,000 inpatient consultations per year at the Loyola University Hospital. Faculty and resident physicians see pediatric patients in the Ronald McDonald® Children's Hospital, a “hospital within a hospital” located on the fourth floor. Patients are also seen in the adult and pediatric burn unit, cardiac transplant unit, neonatal intensive care, Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, the emergency department and trauma center. The hospital maintains a fully equipped examining room with a Haag Streit slit lamp and portable ophthalmic equipment. The emergency department has its own slit lamp and ophthalmic examination area.
