Mark J. Daily Lectureship in Retinal Disease
This endowed lectureship was created primarily through the generous support of grateful Loyola Alumni who recognize Dr. Daily for his mentorship, dedication, and Socratic teaching methods that have remained with each of them for many years.
Dr. Daily received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Illinois. He completed his internship at the University of Florida followed by residency and retina fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Daily, who is credited with recognizing and naming torpedo maculopathy, a torpedo-shaped lesion of the temporal macula served as Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and taught residents at Loyola from 1979 to 2013.
"I will always remember the fluorescein angiography fundamentals Dr. Daily taught us. And if for any reason we as residents could not figure it out, we could always rely on finding a matching description and illustration in Dr. Gass's textbooks which Dr. Daily seemed to have memorized. Even after a busy day in clinic, I always looked forward to these evening lectures and discussions."
The first Daily Lectureship took place during Loyola Resident Alumni Day in 2015.
