GI / Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimally Invasive Surgery is an integral component of the clinical practice in the Department of General Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center. In addition to the over 500 annual basic laparoscopic procedures performed by the many members of the Department of Surgery, there are over 250 advanced procedures performed by the advanced laparoscopists in the department annually. Commonly performed advanced procedures include gastric banding for weight reduction, surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and achalasia, laparoscopic solid organ surgery including the surgical treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the adrenal gland and splenectomy, laparoscopic colon resection for benign and malignant disease, laparoscopic pediatric surgery, laparoscopic inguinal and ventral hernia repairs, and laparoscopy for diagnosis and management of other intra-abdominal malignancies.
